Analysis of the potential impact of several management measures for eastern Atlantic bluefin tuna on the basis of yield per recruit ArchiMer
Arrizabalaga, Haritz; Restrepo, Victor; Fromentin, Jean-marc; Ortiz De Urbina, J M.
A standard yield per recruit (YPR) analysis is used to analyse the effects of minimum size regulations and time area closures on bluefin tuna from the eastern stock (east Atlantic and Mediterranean). Analyses were based on a fishing mortality vector computed over the period 1990-1994 for which data were more reliable and VPA (performed during the 2002 stock assessment) showed a relatively good convergence. This fishing mortality vector was modified according to some combinations of minimum size regulations and time area closures. It is concluded that: (i) PSmed is the main contributor to catch at age in the range of ages 1-13; (ii) The minimum size regulations considered would increase the YPR more than the time area closures, but these would enhance SPR...

Morsan, E.M.; González, R.A..

Effect of minimum size regulations on east bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus L.) yield pe recruit ArchiMer
Restrepo, Victor; Arrizabalaga, Haritz; Ortiz De Urbina, J M; Fromentin, Jean-marc.
A standard yield per recruit (YPR) analysis is used to analyse the effects of minimum size regulations on bluefin tuna from the Eastern stock (East Atlantic and Mediterranean). Analyses were based on a selectivity vector computed over the period 1990- 1994 for which data were more reliable and VPA (performed during the 2002 stock assessment) showed a relatively good convergence. This selectivity vector was modified according to different minimum size regulations and implementation error levels. It is concluded that: (i) perfect implementation of the size limit regulation adopted in 2004 would increase YPR by 4.3% relative to the size limit adopted in 2002, and by 8.8% relative to the pattern realized in the early 1990s; (ii) YPR is however expected to...

The stock estimates obtained during the demersal fish resources survey in 1980-1985 were used to estimate the potential yields of demersal stocks of the Ecuadorian Continental Shelf. The difficulties of predicting yields for multispecies fisheries are discussed and modified version of the Gulland model was adopted. The potential realizable yields for multispecies fisheries are discussed and a modified version of the Gulland model was adopted. The potential realizable yield was calculated to be between 15,000 t and 20,000 t per year, of which 2,000 t is good quality fish, 5,000 t per year of small and medium fish and 8,000 t of gurnards. The majority of these resources are at present being fished at around their optimum levels and any further developments...

Seychelles demersal fishery an analysis of data relating to four key demersal species OceanDocs
Mees, C. C..
Seychelles demersal fishery is described based on historic catch and effort data, and on biological studies of four key species: Batrican (Pristipomoides filamentosus), Job Gris (Aprion virescens), Bourgeois (Lutjanus sebae), and Maconde (Epinephelus chlorostigma). During the period 1985 - 1990 demersal species formed on average 33_310= of the total annual landings of the local fishing fleet. Schooners and whalers were the most important boat types engaging in this fishery, and more recently, a mother ship dory fishing operation. Demersal species constituted 77_310= of all local fish exports over this period. In 1990 approximately 2,000 tonnes of demersal species were landed of which 500 tonnes were exported. Lutjanids comprised 62_310= of the demersal...
